About Mahana

MAHĀNA was born out of a love for adventure, sunny days, and good company. Conceived across the globe, and designed in New Zealand - made for those with warm hearts and sandy feet.

It all started while adventuring in Canada, exploring mountains and dipping in cold lakes, with a lightweight microfibre travel towel that never left the backpack. Its compact size, super absorbency and quick-drying nature meant less time being uncomfortable, and more time exploring.

In French Polynesia, the adventure continued in tropical paradise. Through white sand beaches, waterfall showers, and post-dive boat rides, that super-towel never left our side. Love for adventure was mixed with appreciation for the warm island hospitality and slow beach life.

An idea was brewing.

Diving in Indonesia, seeing more trash than fish. Rafts of plastic bottles, all shapes and sizes littering the harbour waters. It has to stop.

It wasn't until mid lock-down in New Zealand that ideas turned into plans. Taking that much loved travel towel, making some improvements, chatting to manufacturers and designing some colourful beach-inspired looks, MAHĀNA and its flagship recycled beach towel were born.

Sustainability is woven into our fabric

We create towels that last, are manufactured responsibly, and that inspire change. Each MAHĀNA towel is made from around 30 post-consumer recycled plastic bottles, spun into rPET yarn and woven into our waffle microfibre fabric.

A whopping 91% of plastic is not recycled. There is little money in recycled polyester, because virgin polyester is still mass produced. If we can create demand for turning recycled plastics into fibre, rather than use virgin polyester... it's a start.

This is our planet.
